EPT Prague High Roller Won by German Player, Rainer Kempe
The European Poker Tour Prague Single Day High Roller competition saw 80 players register for the Euro 25,000 buy-in over the weekend, which generated a massive prize pool and Euro 539,000 to the first place winner, Rainer Kempe of Germany. The final table included Ramin Hajiyev from Azerbaijan; Spain's Adrian Mateos; David Yan of New Zealand; Kitson Kho from Hong Kong; German ace Tobias Reinkemeier; Dutch pro Luuk Gieles and Piotr Franczak from Poland. Kempe snagged the largest live tournament win of his career to date following a tense 15 hours of play including the heads up round against Frenchman Jean-Noel Thorel. Additional recognizable participants were Andre Akkari, Steve O'Dwyer, Liv Boeree, Jason Mercier, Davidi Kitai, Kevin MacPhee, Martin Finger, Byron Kaverman and Anthony Zinno. Thorel played well throughout having maintained the chip lead. His confidence also prompted him to reject chop agreements with final players Kempe and Hajiyev. Hajiyev was eventually knocked out taking 3rd place and Euro 250,900 leaving Kempe and Thorel to enter the final battle. Thorel may have kicked himself in the end for not agreeing on a chop because Kempe slid into the top spot but the 1 hour heads up was a ping pong of back and forth between the two, which ended with Thorel in 2nd place with Euro 383,200. Additional Final Table Payouts: Adrian Mateos Euro 193,050 David Yan Euro 152,900 Kitson Kho Euro 119,550 Tobias Reinkemeier Euro 94,050 Luuk Gieles Euro 73,500 Piotr Franczak Euro 55,850
