Farid Yachou Wins First WPT Tournament of Champions
Farid Yachou became the first ever Winner of the WPT Tournament of Champions. The event is only open to those who have won a WPT event, so you can bet the best of the best would be present. A total of 64 players put up the $15,000 entry fee, with some big names in the field. Multiple WSOP bracelet winners, high stakes cash game pros, and WPT champions were all present; most with better odds of winning the event than the eventual champion. Farid Yachou would be crowned winner at the end of the day on a long day of play late Sunday. Her entered the final table a long shot to win. Facing tough competition with the likes of Michael Mizrachi, Andy Frankenberger, and Yevgeny Timoshenko. Yachou was the chip leader after day 1, which came as a surprise to everyone. He would falter on day 2, but maintained his chips and skated into the final table. His win is worth $381,000, along with a plethora of cash and prizes from sponsors of the event. He also gets a free entry and hotel accommodations into next year's Tournament of Champions. Prior to becoming the 2016 WPT Tournament of Champions winner, Farid was unknown to most. He cut his chops playing home games throughout the Netherlands. He was best known as a low limit cash game player that hung around with pro fellow Dutchman – Pieter de Korver. It would be de Korver who talked him into playing tournaments. We bet he's happy he did now. As of 2016, Yachou has two tournament cashes to his name. The first being a WPT event in Amsterdam that Pieter talked him in to playing. This win would grant his entry into the Tournament of Champions which was good for $273,097. His second win would be the Tournament of Champions. It's unknown how many small tournaments he has played. But, this was only his second major tournament. Two for two in main events is not a bad start to one's poker career. We can bet that Yachou is now known throughout the poker community after winning two major WPT events.
