Global Poker League Updates – Week 4
Week 4 of the Global Poker League is in the books. The league itself is seeing growth and viewership rise. This is no doubt due to the premium play that can be seen. Each week there is a new hero that comes in and saves the day for their team. IT's like watching a walk off home run in the bottom of the 9th for the home team. This week's hero, without question, was Moscow Wolverines player – Anatoly Filatov. Filatov would first hit the felt in a set of two 6 max tournaments. He would place 2nd in the first game for 5 points. Then go on to win the 2nd tournament for 7 more points. But, he wasn't done yet. Filatov would represent his team in the best of 3 heads up matches and add 2 more wins, along with 6 more points to his record. Not to mention, he had to beat one of the best players in the world – Vanessa Selbst, to win two out of three matches. His efforts single handedly took his Moscow Wolverines from the middle of the pack, to the top of the EurAsia Conference; and overall pint leaders with 53. Olivier Busquet would also show his dominance helping his team get out of the gutters. Just a few days removed from winning an MMA cage fight prop bet against fellow high stakes poker pro J.C. Alvarez, Busquet showed he can fight in a cage, and on the felt. Busquet would win his first of two 6 max tournaments, earning 7 points for his team. He wouldn't fare quite as well in his 2nd match, but still placed 4th to earn 2 more points. He would dominate Tom Marchese of the New York Rounders by beating him twice in their heads up match, giving his team 6 much needed points. Busquets points would take his L.A. Sunset to 3rd place in the Americas division. Todd Brunson was the big loser on the day being the lone player not to earn a point. He would lose all 3 heads up matches against Jeff Gross of the Berlin Bears. Brunson's team – the Rome Empowers are the basement dwellers of the league thus far failing to win a single tournament yet. His teammate – Walter Treccarichi came in 5th and 6th in both his six match tournaments gaining just 1 point for the Rome Empowers this week. Their 28 points after weeks is 10 less than the next teams, making them the last place team so far. Current Standings Americas Conference Montreal Nationals New York Rounders L.A.
