Global Poker League Summer Series Heat 3 Results
The Global Poker League is finding a groove with their Summer Series as they head in to week 4. With week 3 of the series complete, we have a clearer picture of the standings and just how dominate the Montreal Nationals really are. The first 2 weeks, we saw the Americas Conference completely dominate the EurAsia Conference. Americas swept week 1, winning all 6 matches, while they would win 4 of 6 in week 2. In week 3, we saw a slight change in the results, but the Americas Conference still won 3 out of 5. One match was postponed until later the next week. It looked like the EurAsia Conference was going to redeem themselves with two wins right off the bat. Anatoly Filatov from Moscow Wolverines took 2 of 3 from La Vegas Moneymakers Jonathan Little. Next up was Berlin with Brian Rast winning 2 of 3 as well against the New York Rounders Kevin MacPhee. Joao Simao of the Sao Paulo Metropolitans would not allow the Eurasian Conference to sweep the Americas this week when he won 2 of 3 against Raiden Kan of Hong Kong. The Americas would continue their streaky play by winning the next 2 matches, both with a 2 out of 3 result. We saw no sweeps in the heads up matches, which is good for the competition, but we are seeing one team start to run away with their division, and the overall lead. The Montreal Nationals already have 121 points and hold a 5-point lead over the LA Sunset. The Las Vegas Moneymakers are holding down the bottom spot with just 80 points. Sao Paulo is possibly the only team who has a chance to catch Montreal other than LA with 106 points. Over in the EurAsia Conference, the first place team has fewer points than the 3rd place team in the Americas. Moscow Wolverines currently hold the lead after their 2 of 3 wins gaining 6 points this week to put them one point ahead of the Hong Kong Stars. Moscow has 104, with Hong Kong sitting at 103. The 3rd place London Royals are sitting at 100 points with 3 games in hand. Their match was postponed this week and could take the lead with a decent outing. Rounding out the field are Paris with 95, Berlin with 80, and Rome with just 75.
