2016 WSOP Updates

2016 WSOP Updates
Were more than halfway through the 2016 WSOP, and we have seen some great poker being played. The pros are dominating the higher buy ins, while newcomers are making names for themselves across almost all the events. Let's get caught up with the latest news and results from the 2016 WSOP. Bonomo May be the Best Everyone is talking about Jason Mercier and his 2 bracelet wins this year. And rightfully so. Winning one is hard enough, let alone 2 in the same year. Justin Bonomo is quietly having one of the best performances so far though. No one would be able to compete with Merciers 2 bracelets, and 3 final tables, but Bonomo is coming close. His first cash came in event 8 when he almost won his 2nd bracelet of his career by finishing 2nd in the HORSE event. He would cash in another HORSE event 10 events later. Then would follow that up 2 straight final tables, finishing 3rd in both. So far he's won over $300,000 at the WSOP and come close to winning 3 bracelets. All events he's final tabled have been full of top pros which makes his deep runs even more impressive. Novice Wins over $1 million at WSOP The 2016 WSOP paid out its first $1 million+ pay day this year, and it went to a player who calls himself a novice. Mitchell Towner is no pro poker player by any definition of the term. In fact, has a college professor at the University of Arizona. He would enter the Monster Stack event along with 6,926 other hopeful millionaires. Amazingly, he would outlast all, and even outlast David Pham, a well-known professional. This was only the tournament he has played at the WSOP, and first cash. It's also only the second time has played a tournament with a buy in larger than $100. The other being his previous WSOP entry. Admittedly, he only plays poker about 1 hour a week and doesn't really consider himself a poker player. This is what the WSOP so great! $10Ks Belong to the Pros All of the $10K buy in events have been riddled with pros and all have been won by a top name pro. The latest $10K winner was George Danzer when he won the $10K Stud Hi- Lo event for $338,000. These larger buy ins attract fewer players, but are filled with the best of the best. Danzer had to defeat a tough final table that featured. Justin Bonomo, Randy Ohel, Todd Brunson, Eli Elezra, Scott Clements, and David Grey. And in case that wasn't enough competition, David Benyamine was sitting right across the table.
