Global Poker League Standings
After 4 weeks of the much anticipated Summer Series, we are starting to get a clearer picture of who's for real, and who's pretending. With the Americas conference dominating much of the first 2 weeks, Eurasia is starting to mount a comeback. But will it be enough for them to overtake the dominating forces in Americas? Antony Filatov of the Moscow Wolverines would face Bryn Kenney from New York in the first heads up match. He would immediately take control and win 2 of the 3 matches earning 6 points for his Moscow team. The hottest player in poker – Fedor Holz would lead his LA Sunset team to victory with 2 wins over London's Igor Kurganov in match 2. Americas would continue their dominance in heat 3 when Faraz Jaka of San Francisco faced Randy Lew. Lew is considered to be one of the better heads up players, but failed to gain traction for his Hong Kong stars. Jaka would sweep all 3 matches and gaining a much needed 9 points for the San Francisco Rush. Hong Kong could have used at least 3 of those points to keep them in contention in the Eurasia conference. Scott Ball from the Las Vegas Moneymakers would continue the Americas streak by taking 2 out of 3 from Dominik Nitsche of the Berlin Bears. Dario Sammartino and Fabrice Soulier, both out of the Eurasia conference would win 2 out of 3 against their opponents in the final 2 matches. As it stands, Montreal is still the overall leader with 130 points. Fedor Holz helped close the gap by winning 2 matches, but the Nationals had such a large lead heading in to week of the Summer Series, LA still sits 8 points back. Sao Paulo is the next closest team in the Americas conference with 109 points, and essentially out of the running. New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas round out the last 3 spots. In the Eurasia conference, Moscow leads by 7 points with 110 total points. The London Royals did gain some gain some ground and now hold 103 points. Hong Kong could have taken over sole position of 2nd had Randy Lew won at least one match. Unfortunately, they are tied with London. Paris is the only other team with a legitimate chance of winning the Eurasia conference with 101 points. Both Berlin and Rome look to be too far behind with 83, and 81 points.
