PokerStars Gains Portuguese License
The world's largest online poker room, PokerStars, has recently been granted a new license, awarded by Portugal's regulated online gambling regulator, Comissao de Jogos. This makes the Amaya brand the fourth licensed operator for Portugal. It will operate under the PokerStars.pt domain. Aside from PokerStars, Portugal's additional operators include Betclic Everest Group, Bet Entertainment, and Sociedade de Investimentos Turísticos da Costa Verde (Solverde), which are all currently live in the market. Betclic re-entered the market back in May 2016, and is considered the first to have completed this task. The brand comes with a number of credentials, and maintains licenses for both sports betting and slots. Additionally, it holds the highest-profile existing license. Next to join Portugal's licensed operators, was Bet Entertainment Technologies, which is powered by SBTech. It joined the now quartet back in June, upon securing a sportsbook license for its Bet.py brand. Finally, prior to PokerStars, the land-based casino operator, Solverde, joined the list, having had its casino offering from NYX licensed. The largest online poker room in the world is accessible via downloadable poker clients, for both Windows, and Macintosh devices. Its software is both free and easy to use, and requires only a simple download process. The brand has obtained licenses thus far to offer its tournaments, in addition to blackjack, French roulette, and Omaha and Texas Hold'em cash games. In addition to its game offerings, it is also equipped with a variety of player promotions, designed to ramp up player experiences. Its most recent Portugal license is a move that will surely strengthen the brand's current position. Source: "PokerStars latest operator to secure Portuguese iGaming licence' . November 29, 2016.
