Chau Giang

Chau Giang is a well respected poker player who claims that poker is all about skill. He has certainly proven to possess the skill needed to win both honor and money in the big events. Giang represents the American Dream in many ways as he came from the toughest of conditions before he made his way to the poker elite. The focus throughout his career has been on cash-game play but he is more recently also known for appearing in more major events.
From Vietnam to Las Vegas
Chau Giang fled Vietnam on a small boat in the end of the 1970s and arrived in Florida. There he had to work hard for a minimum wage. His move to Colorado brought with it a job as a chef that paid $160 a week. During this period he learned to play poker and once he realized his potential he took the step to move to Las Vegas where he started to reap the success of his newly found hobby. He made $100,000 in his first year as a professional player which brought him a long way from the time just off the boat in Florida.
Accomplishments
Chau Giang holds three World Series of Poker bracelets. The first one he won in 1993 in the $1,500 No Limit Ace to Five Draw which earned him $82,800. The second bracelet came in 1998 through the $2,000 Omaha 8 or Better which came with the prize sum of $150,960. The third bracelet he achieved in 2004 through the $2000 Pot Limit Omaha earning him $187,920.
Giang can be seen in the “Big Game” in Las Vegas on a regular basis. For many years he preferred to focus on cash-games and only made the exception for the WSOP. It was his children’s inquiry as to why he wasn’t on television that made him change his mind and plunge into the world of poker tournaments. The largest sum he has ever won came in the World Poker Open where he placed second and earned $773,448. His total earnings currently exceed $3,200,000.
Poker is all Skill
To Chau Giang there is no such thing as luck in poker, at least not when it comes to becoming a professional poker player. He means that a player only loses because they’re doing something wrong and not as a result of bad luck. He supports his theory with the fact that there are professional poker players who win time after time and that is not the way luck works.
Private Life
Chau Giang can be found playing poker online on Full Tilt Poker where he goes by the nick name “La Key U.” Despite the rumors of magic or voodoo being behind his success Giang has showed no inclination to these types of pastime activities. He is married and has three children. It is very likely that this player will be seen also in the future in big events showing off his skills and talents to a worldwide audience.
