Phil Ivey has been called the Tiger Woods of Poker. While he hasn’t achieved the same results as Tiger on the green he can certainly be called a champion of poker. From California to New Jersey

Phil Ivey was born in California but his destiny as a poker pro was to be fulfilled on the opposite coast of the USA. As a three month old he moved with his family to New Jersey and in his teens this location led him to practice his poker skills in Atlantic City. His co-workers from the telemarketing firm that he worked for in the 1990s remember his passion for the game but little did they know just how far this talent of his would take him.

Accomplishments

Between 2002 and 2005 Phil Ivey placed among the top 25 in the WSOP three times. This is quite an accomplishment considering that the fields grew significantly each year. But already in 2000 Phil won his first bracelet. At the WSOP final table he became the first to beat Amarillo Slim heads-up. In the 2002 WSOP he won three bracelets and scored a tie with Phil Hellmuth Jr, Ted Forrest and Puggy Pearson for the most wins in one year.

In the World Poker Tour Phil has made it to eight final tables. In this tour he has also been seen in television at the final table. In February 2008 he met Phil Hellmuth and Nam Le at the final table in the Commerce Casino and he won the impressive first prize of $1,596,000. Phil Ivey has also been seen in the European Poker Tour where in 2006 he made it to the final table ending seventh.
