Scotty Nguyen

Thuan 'Scotty' Nguyen was born in South Vietnam in 1962. Chance and fate had a hand in the direction of his life as he found his way to America. As the eldest of 13 children, he ran from the war zone of Vietnam and aimed for the land of dreams, America. He found himself in Taiwan as a refugee where he did manual tasks until he received word that he had received an American sponsor. As a boy of 14, he arrived in America. He went to school in California before making his way to Las Vegas, a place that he had heard and dreamt of from his early childhood in Vietnam.
Once in Las Vegas and on the way to following his dreams, he began a table cleaning job at a casino that is today known as Harrah's Casino. It was here that he became known as 'Scotty' due to the difficulty of pronouncing his real name "Thuan". After becoming a dealer at the poker tables, he began to learn all about the game of poker and then he moved a step closer on his journey and his dream of becoming a poker champion. For a few years, Scotty tried to make ends meet between dealing at poker tables and playing in poker tournaments. Following Stu Ungar's win of the WSOP main event in 1997, his picture appeared on a magazine cover. Scotty kept the magazine and idolized Stu Ungar and imagined himself in a similar situation, winning the title and appearing on the cover. A year later, Scotty achieved his dream and won the WSOP title.
