US Poker Rooms

Poker players in the United States sometimes have a hard time finding online poker rooms that will accept US players. Many online poker sites and other online gambling sites will not accept players from the United States because of the pressure placed upon them by the US government.

Although online poker has not been outlawed in the United States on a federal level, it has become increasingly harder for players to make deposits to their favorite online poker rooms. The reason for this is the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) of 2006, which has not outlawed online poker and other forms of online gambling, but has made it illegal for financial institutions to process payments for online gambling sites. The UIGEA was hidden inside the Port Act, which was signed into law on Friday, October 13th, 2006. As an initial response, a number of the top poker sites immediately banned US players. These sites included Paradise Poker, Party Poker, and Poker Room.

Online poker is not illegal across the US, and because it is a game of skill, it has more chance of being regulated and legalized than other forms of online gambling. However, there has been no concrete progress with this at this time. The PPA (Poker Players Alliance) is tirelessly working towards the recognition and regulation of online poker in the United States.

The PPA and other organizations continue the fight for the rights of online poker in the United States, and the rights of the online poker players in the United States.

US-Specific Poker Rooms

Because of the situation with the UIGEA, players will find that even at some online poker sites that do accept players from the US, that they are unable to find a payment method that will work for them because they are located in the United States. In order to respond to these issues, there are a number of online poker sites that cater specifically to the US market, and ensure that they offer deposit options that US players can make use of. At times, these deposit options change, but others are used in their place.

Those online poker sites that only allow US players from certain states, are excluding those that live in Nevada, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, South Dakota, Oregon, Washington State, Louisiana, and Illinois. These states have laws that do not allow online gambling, while the remaining 39 states do not have any laws against it.

Certain online poker sites have even switched networks a number of times until they found one that handled real money transactions for players from the United States.
