The competition is getting tighter between casinos and the players are starting to benefit through player rewards.

Some casinos are losing money. Others have been forced to close their doors because of lack of business. Casinos that want to survive and stay in the black are finding it necessary to offer lucrative rewards to induce players to give them action. This is especially good news for poker players.

Sadly, poker players are usually the last people on the totem pole to benefit from casino perks. That is why I am tickled to report to you that times are a'changing as the folk song goes.

For starters, let's go to Dover Downs in Dover, DEL. Poker players are paid $2 per hour for the first 29 hours per week of play and $10 an hour for every hour after 30 hours.

At Maryland Live, cash players who play over 50 hours per week will be awarded an amazing $500. This casino is located between Baltimore, MD. and Washington D.C.

There's more at Maryland Live. Saturday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to midnight, the card room will pay $2,100 for the top four high hands.

Southpoint Casino in Las Vegas has a big promotion going to attract players. The Strip casino pays $1 per hour for the first 100 to 150 hours; $1.50 per hour for 151 to 200; $2.00 for 201 to 300 hours; $3.00 for 301 to 400 hours; and $4.00 an hour for all hours over 401.

Southpoint is also offering a $175,000 freeroll June poker tournament on June 12-14. It starts at 6 p.m. Look up the details on line.

The Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, FL. pays $1,000 per high hand every 30 minutes on Sunday from noon to 2 a.m. This is a popular perk for players and the tables are full during those hours.

Gulfstream Park Casino in Florida gives newcomers $100 as a bonus for playing. See GulfstreamPark.com for details.

Oceans 11 in Oceanside near San Diego pays $2 per hour for the first 20 hours of play, $3 per hour for 100 hours, $4 per hour for 150 hours and $5 per hour for 200 hours or more.

Naples-Ft. Myers, FL., where I used to play the greyhounds, now has a poker room and is offering a $550 buy-in pot limit Omaha championship tournament on March 30 at noon. On April 1, a $100,000 guaranteed tournament will be hosted. Buy-in is $1,100.

I am sure there are many other casinos that are considering raising their perks to draw in good customers. Keep your eyes open and look them up on their websites. Good luck.
