  • I see the ultimatebet scandal has reared it's head again.

You can listen to a recording

    between lawyers and Ultimatebet executives.

    Unbelievable.

  • So not cool!!!

  • I'm amazed at the way they talk about it like it's nothing.

  • Wow, that is unreal. It's just put out there like nothing.

  • wow, crazy bad that is - this goes to show that if poker sites fix things like this, then how do we know online casinos dont do the same too on the slots and other table games,

so mistake me if i am wrong, so this russ hamilton guy basically got given some software that is different to the standard software that the average players would play and this way he was able too see the cards of the players - so he had an unfair advantage, then the poker room execs, try and cover this up and let him get away with it - this is totally unbelievable - totally totally unprofessional they need to be locked up for this it is disgusting - players trusted there software and to be ripped of by a player who had a unfair advantage because he had *special software is so wrong* wow anyway, i am now even scared to play online casino slots - how do we even know they are fair and legit too - who knows.

EDIT: you know its all about money - gambling is a dirty business, always has been always will be seen that way, no matter how much technology and advertisements throw our way in this developing frenzy of new technology - remember how bad gambling was all those many many years ago when the mafias used to run las vegas, they are all just after money, that is all it is about.

Well, I think that's an over-simplification; you can't paint everyone with the same brush. some casinos put in hard work and provide excellent service. Is it about money? Well, of course, every business is about money or it would be called volunteering. but that doesn't mean everyone out there is crooked or money-grubbing. Honestly, if you feel that way, and are questioning the integrity of every site, you probably shouldn't gamble.

  • You can't apply the greed of one set of people/site to every site out there.

Yes it was about seeing players hole cards both at Ultimatebet and Absolute Poker.  Here's an interesting CNBC video that explains what went on.  See it here.

Here is potripper cheating - you can see all the hole cards

  • Disturbing for sure!!! It makes me wary to play..hopefully this isn't the norm!! :(

Definitely not the norm Rosebud.....well I hope not.  There's no evidence of other sites like this.

  • Sometimes i think that all poker sites are rigged, especially PS.. to much bad rep on internet poker.. i prefer play real game, because don't trust to these sites.

  • I don't think all online poker sites are rigged - it's the RNG that's the problem!

True Poker is one of the rare sites that uses a different RNG and you don't see many players on there.

  • It is so irritating and players are completely powerless; of course they can avoid certain poker sites but that isn't a solution.

And that video about UB / Absolute Poker Cheating Scandal is scary. It only shows how important regulation of online gambling is.

Yes it really does hghlight the importance of regulation.

  • I read that Annie Duke made a statement in which she said that all accusations in the interview were false.

What do you guys think? Is she being honest or not?

  • Probably not.

    What do you think Markotik?

  • This is really disturbing, and makes me think of other games, software and so on. Is it good? Of course not, but who is to determine who's fault was it? No sure what the law says about online casino (poker) cheating. And as always, it is called cheating only if you get caught. I don't like online poker (partly because I suck at it), but then again, things like this definitely won't help.

On the other hand, I don't really think that this will have a huge impact on the number of active players.

  • I agree Lootva; it does make you think about other software be it bingo, poker, casinos or sportsbooks.  The good thing is that the majority are honest.

Lets take PokerStars as an example though.  They obviously have "superusers" on there because you can watch the final table of the Sunday Million and see all the hole cards in each hand.  Makes for great viewing but obviously this "superuser" could be misused by any member of PokerStars staff that has this available to them.  PokerStars being the biggest poker site of them all are probably extremely careful to whom they give superuser access to but there is always the possibility that a member of staff could turn "bad" and use this to their advantage.  I doubt this won't ever happen but the possibility is always there.

  • Probably not.

    What do you think Markotik?

I don't believe her simply because of that Hamilton's interview.

I do think that majority of poker players are honest and I agree with you regarding PokerStars, Blue. It's a big brand and they are well-known even among people that don't play poker so they have to keep a good reputation.

In a long run this won't have any significance for online poker players. We will forget about this soon.
