Feb 23, 2009
14 tournaments in one of the world's most exciting gambling locations Pokerstars has released the final schedule for one of the world's most glamourous poker events, the Pokerstars European Poker Tour Grand Final, which starts in Monte Carlo on April 27 2009. This year's schedule features 14 tournaments headed by a Euro 10 600 buy-in Main Event sure to attract top poker aces from all over the globe. The organisers are hoping to field more players than last year, when 840 entrants competed for a winner's prize of $3.15 million and a second placing prize of $1.8 million. Canadian Glen Chorny took the 2008 event (see previous InfoPowa report) in an exciting heads-up against Hungarian ace Denes Kalo. This year's main event will run from April 28th to May 3rd. The Monte Carlo Grand Final in 2008 was certainly an international affair with players from seven different countries finishing in the top ten. This year PokerStars is hoping to break the thousand player barrier, which would generate a total prize pool worth around $12 million. Each entrant will receive 30 000 in starting chips and blind levels will last 60 minutes on the first day of play and 75 minutes thereafter. New to the schedule is a three-day Euro 25 500 buy-in European High Roller tournament and a two-day Euro 5 000 buy-in Pot Limit Omaha competition. In order to enter, PokerStars players can register for events directly from the online poker software. A Pokerstars spokesman revealed this week that Euro 100 buy-in Battleship tournaments will be a daily occurrence in Monte Carlo. These feature two contestants facing each other at a table playing via computers in an absorbing combination of live and online poker. In addition, Euro 200 buy-in Sit and Go tournaments will also be offered throughout the Mediterranean spectacular. Full details are available on the PokerStars website.
