Thanks to unfriendly laws in their home country, Norwegians battle it out in the UK Henrik Tollefsen was some distance from home this week when he was crowned Norwegian Poker Champion 2009 at the Dusk Till Dawn poker club in Nottingham, UK. The reason? Norwegian authorities continue to cling to outdated laws which have made it advisable for the country's booming poker playing population to stage their tourneys elsewhere. Tollefsen's Norwegian Poker Championship win of over $124 000 and a seat at the next World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas have handsomely paid for his trip to the UK and a tournament that was packed with Nordic players and enthusiastic supporters. Simon Trumper, DTD Poker Director said: “As it was last year, the Norwegian Poker Championships has been a great festival to rival any in Europe with a unique atmosphere that was enjoyed by all. “ The main event took place over four days and attracted 469 initial entrants, with plenty of action leading to the final heads up between Orjan Skommo and Tollefsen. The final confrontation was exciting, but lasted a mere 30 minutes as the short-stacked Skommo fell to the skilled and determined play of the winner. Skommo collected a cheque for $72 500 for his second placing.
