21-Year-Old Jake Cody Takes Down The EPT Deauville Championship

Young gun Cody teaches Timex, Eastgate and ElkY a few tricks

The PokerStars.com European Poker Tour in Deauville, France has been won by a 21-year-old largely unknown poker pro called Jake Cody, who took down names like 'Timex' McDonald, former WSOP main event champ Peter Eastgate and Internet whiz Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier in the process, besting an entry field of 767 other players - many of them well known experts in the game.

Hailing from the UK and competing in an EPT event for the first time, a clearly delighted Cody claimed the first place prize of Euro 847 000 for his outstanding victory.

In the final table action, Eastgate was ousted in 8th place, continuing his dubious record of never winning an EPT trophy, whilst 'Timex' did somewhat better but was busted out in third place, taking home to Canada a Euro 295 000 paycheck.

They both did better than Frenchman Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier who was eliminated in ninth place, just missing the final table action.

Cody's heads up against Teodor Caraba took just under an hour to finalise in the Brit's favour

The EPT's next stop is on February 16 to 21st in Copenhagen, Denmark, where the famously aggressive Danish poker aces will be gunning for the top spot.
