Still No WSOP Bracelet For Dwan

Jun 21, 2010
Despite entering for several events, gold continues to elude internet phenom As the 41st World Series of Poker thunders into its third week, the more recognisable top pro names remain largely absent from the winner lists, although not for want of trying, with a slew of top players in the business appearing on a diverse range of event entries. Internet high stakes phenom Tom Dwan, racing to claim his first bracelet and hoping to scoop some reportedly big side bets in doing so, has so far not managed to achieve his goal as the halfway mark is passed. Most recent action on the tables has been as follows: In event 28 - the $2,500 buy-in Pot-Limit Omaha contest, 596 hopefuls were reduced to 102 on the first day and then 12 on the second. Day 3 started Thursday afternoon with Canadian ace Miguel Proulx enjoying the chip lead, but with French player Patrick Hanoteau hot on his heels. Along with ten other players they were angling for the bracelet and the main prize of $315,311 set for this event. Notable eliminations have included Chau Giang, Sandra Naujoks and Josh Tieman. BY 9pm Vegas time Thursday night the following 7 players remained in the hunt: L.J. Klein 1,398,000 Miguel Proulx 940,000 Michael Greco 583,000 Trevor Pope 344,000 Karl Gal 316,000 Joerg Engels 260,000 Stephane Tayar 210,000 The first two eliminations on the final table were Patrick Hanoteau in ninth place for $25,044, and Tommy Le in 8th Place for $32,254. 13 players took their seats Thursday afternoon in a bid to reach a final table and a winner on Day 3 of event 29, a $10,000 Limit Hold'em World Championship competition that had a starter field on Day 1 of 171 top players. The survivors as the third day of action started included Michael Mizrachi, who has already taken a bracelet in the Player's Championship event this year, and Brock Parker, who holds two bracelets won in 2009. David Chiu, Matt Keikoan and Jameson Painter were also still active and ambitious. By 9.30pm Vegas time Thursday only four players remained, with Matt Keikoan leading on 1.7 million chips, chased by Daniel Idema (1.68 million); Jameson Painter (1.25 million) and Kyle Ray (375 000). The final table was set when Anh Van Nguyen busted out in tenth place, with David Chiu the first of the final table players to head for the exit and a $39 760 payday. Mike Mizrachi did not last the course, heading for the rail in eighth place for $49 732, followed by Simon Morris in the seventh spot for $62 897 and Zvi Groysman taken out in sixth for $80 884. Brock Parker had a roller coaster day, repeatedly staging talented comebacks when he seemed about to go down, but he was eventually busted out in fifth for the first of the six figure payouts in the event of $105 783. Day 2 of event 30, a $1,500 buy-in No Limit Hold'em affair saw cards in the air again on Thursday afternoon as 261 survivors of a massive original field of 2,394 returned to do battle with the money bubble temptingly set at the 234th elimination.. Among those spotted taking their seats were Carlos Mortenson and Neil Channing. By late evening Thursday Vegas time there were 71 players left, with Christopher Gonzales holding a comfortable lead on 565,000, but Carlos Mortensen his closest rival on 415,000. 3 Allen Stern 325,000 In event 31, a $1,500 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. competition, an entry field of 828 had been whittled down to a mere 280 players by the end of the first day, with names like Lex Veldhuis, Allen Kessler, Tom Dwan, Maria Ho, John Cernuto, Michael Binger and Pat Pezzin outlasting the competition and going through to the second day starting Thursday afternoon. By late evening Vegas time Thursday there were still 67 players in contention, and Tom Dwan had again failed to reach the final table, let alone win a bracelet. He was, however just inside the cash bubble, which was some consolation. Going into Level 15 the chip leader was Regis Burlot on 156 000, followed by Dustin Leary on 150 000 abd a determined Jeff Shulman on 131 000. There's some big money to be had in event 32 - the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Six Handed, which kicked off Thursday afternoon with 568 entrants generating a prize pool of $2,669,600, from which the top 54 players will be paid a minimum of $10,171 and the winner will take home $667,433. Six-figure paychecks extend right down to the fifth elimination, ensuring good rewards for the top dogs. Late Thursday evening the Day 1 battle was still raging, with 318 players still in contention and the top ten chip leaders led by Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliot and reading like a who's who of international poker with aces like David Singer, George Danzer, Shannon Shorr, Eric Baldwin, Jennifer Harman, Christian Harder and Tom Marchese all in the mix. Event 33, a $2,500 buy-in Pot-Limit Hold'em/Omaha contest also sported a VIP player list when it started Thursday, with the following all seen enjoying themselves as cards hit the air: Vitaly Lunkin, Annie Duke, Nenad Medic, Fabrice Soulier, Soheil Shamseddin, Erik Seidel, Lee Watkinson, JC Tran, Chino Rheem, John Juanda, Sorel Mizzi, Michael Binger, Dave Baker, Greg Raymer and Victor Ramdin. By late evening Thursday in Vegas the 482-strong entry field was down to 333 with Chris Reslock holding a 55,000 significant lead. Notable eliminations included Daniel Negreanu and Antony Lellouche.
