Nov 10, 2010
Canadian wins against Racener Jonathan Duhamel (23) is the first Canadian to occupy the first position in the WSOP main event early Monday evening. The young player from Quebec won a winners bracelet and $8,944,310, besting 7319 entries for the competition, which is the second biggest number of entries in this event ever. With a significant chip lead at the beginning of the final table, Duhamel was still deprived from this lead twice, but he always managed to win it back and appear with 6:1 lead in the heads-up against John Racener (24). The whole action was halted after the two players had reached the heads-up in the early hours of Sunday morning. The finale was continued on Monday evening, but the two survivors played less than two hours and 43 hands when Duhamel won. On the other side, Racener also won a record consolation second prize of $5,545,955. After winning in this fast paced heads up, Duhamel stepped up to receive the winner's bracelet from previous champion Joe Cada, as well as a large pile of cash, while being cheered and applauded by a large and partisan Canadian spectator crowd.
