Last two events playing out
The most prestigious contest in the world of poker is near at hand, and excitement can already be felt in the air at the last two events of this year's WSOP.
As the suspense is building up, Event 54: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em started its second day with 686 survivors of the first two flights, with many big names still in play, including chip leader Paul Volpe, then Shane Schleger, Matt Waxman, Terrence Chan, Fatima Moreira De Melo, Randy Lew, Brandon Cantu, Matt Stout, Paul Magriel and Devin Porter.
At the end of the day there were 102 survivors left at level 17, led by Anibol Andres on 333,000.
In terms of the other remaining competition, Event 55: $50,000 Poker Player's Championship, the player list has significantly reduced, from the original 128 to just 32 players at level 15.
At the end of the second day, the top ten chip counts were the following: Brian Rast on 1,320,000, George Lind on 1,210,000, followed by Josh Arieh (1,090,000), Owais Ahmed (986,000), Scott Seiver (980,000), Vladimir Shchemelev (900,000), Shaun Deeb (900,000), Gus Hansen (890,000), Phil Hellmuth (810,000) and Ben Lamb (750,000).
The "eight-game mix" format will continue through to the final table, when the game will switch to no-limit hold'em only.
