MGM Resorts International File a Suit Against Online Poker Subscription site

Suit aims at brand protection A new lawsuit emerged in the Us market this week, when it was announced that gambling giant MGM Resorts International has initiated a proceeding against a brand registered to a big US corporate, World Poker Rewards Club Co. Inc. and John George of Blaine, Washington. World Poker Rewards Club is a site that operates on the subscription model, based on which it is legal to play poker in the United States. According to the suit, the Atlantis Solutions-Cybertech powered internet poker subscription club has infringed its Gold Strike casino trademarks, as they own websites titled Gold Strike Poker under different domain suffixes, and they have registered user names carrying the Gold Strike name on social network sites. In its claim, MGM Resorts states that this represents an infringement of their trademark, as they own Gold Strike hotel-casinos, adding that the defendants were warned about this by company attorneys in July, when they issued with cease and desist warnings and asked to voluntarily transfer the website domain names to MGM. And even though George agreed to change the name of his websites, he did not give up on the domain names, attempting to take in MGM Resorts to buy them off.
