Maryland-FTP Settlement Close at Hand?
More flexibility makes the settlement more plausible A new development has been noted in the case of Full Tilt Poker and the state of Maryland, which forms a part of a larger, recently unsealed action, United States of America v. Funds Contained in Four Accounts (Oldford Group et al, by the Maryland authorities), as this week emerged details of communications between a member of the US Attorney's Office in Maryland, a lawyer representing Full Tilt Poker interests in Switzerland, and a US federal judge. Namely, a letter was sent by US Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein to federal judge Catherine C. Blake, in which he points out that his office has been in touch with a Full Tilt Poker representative Barry Boss, regarding a settlement in the case of frozen Swiss banking accounts in the name of Ranston Limited. In addition, he specified that, as part of the deal, the government had agreed to waive any time limits regarding filings in the Ranston case, adding: "As to the two Ranston accounts, I have been contacted by Barry Boss, Esquire, who represents Ranston Ltd., which appears to be the owner of the two accounts. Mr. Boss and I have opened discussions towards a potential settlement of the interests in the Ranston accounts. "In order to facilitate the settlement process, the government has agreed to waive all filing time limits for Ranston while we are making progress with settlement discussions. "I will submit a status report to the Court if the case is not resolved as to the Ranston accounts by December 21, 2011."
