Big Win for British Poker Pro
Dempsey takes down $821,612 The World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic saw its grand finale at the Bellagio in Las Vegas over the weekend, when a British poker pro James Dempsey outplayed the field of 413 players on his way to the main prize of $821,612 and a $25,500 seat in the WPT World Championship. The final table saw a formidable composition, with Soi Nguyen holding the chip lead on 4,995,000, Dempsey on 3,860,000; Andrew Lichtenberger (3,605,000); Vanessa Selbst (2,250,000); Antonio Esfandiari (1,255,000) and Vitor Coelho (560,000). The intense action resulted in exciting heads-up between Nguyen and Dempsey, who were at the time pretty even. However, after 80 hands of supreme poker action, the UK pro defeated his opponent, leaving him with a rather comforting runner up prize of $517,478. This is Dempsey's biggest career win to date and at his first ever WPT tournament.
