Governor encourages interested parties to make suggestions Revitalized 11-man Nevada Gaming Policy Committee met on Wednesday with Governor Brian Sandoval urging interested parties to give ideas and make suggestions for the future developments of the Nevada online poker initiative.The governor would like to see the group's efforts completed by the end of August this year so that a report can be published, and suggestions put forward on draft legislation for the state's 2013 session. Sandoval said it is essential for the committee to develop policies for managing and regulating a new element in the Nevada industry, and possibly the United States as a whole at some point. He also reminded committee members that its remit was recommending a public policy position and online gaming approval, in order to ensure the state of Nevada maintain its position as an industry leader. Governor proposed the committee meets at least every four to six weeks, suggesting the future meetings include topics such as internet gambling developments in other US states, emerging technologies, strategies for Nevada remaining in the forefront of developments with online gambling economic effects on the state. Nevada Gaming Commission chairman Peter Bernhard and Gaming Control Board Chairman Mark Lipparelli, briefed the committee on background and current developments bringing out that Nevada has requested clarification on several aspects arising from the US Department of Justice's revised interpretation of the Wire Act. Expressing his company's opinion Jim Murren, CEO of MGM Resorts International and a committee member, said the federal legalization was the preferred option, and suggested the committee could profitably address gambling issues on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. The meeting of the committee was attended by almost 75 people, some of them being regulators and industry legal experts, educators and corporate executives.
