UKIPT Title Goes to Sixty-Year-Old Landlord
GBP 210,400 main prize the biggest one at the UKIPT Apart from the record-setting main prize, this season's Pokerstars UK and Ireland Poker Tournament held in Nottingham, England saw another remarkable number – 1,625 players who entered the competition. The record paycheck went to a 60-year-old landlord from Leicestershire, Robert Baguely, who took home the GBP 210,400 main prize after qualifying for his seat in a GBP 100 Pokerstars satellite tourney, and outplaying his opponents at the final table which he started with the lowest chip stack. In the heads-up, he faced the dominant Iqbal Ahmed who played formidably, but in the end had to settle for the runner up prize of GBP 125,000. In a comment on his win, Baguely said he had not expected to win, but that he was delighted that he had, and had to play against some excellent players.
