Phelps Surprises Best Friends at WPT Montreal
Michael Phelps made an appearance at the WPT in Montreal surprising his best buddy this week. Upon his arrival in Montreal, Phelps tweeted: "Pumped for the kid today!! Just surprised him for the final 6 of the #wptmontreal." He also commented to WPT.com saying, "Gotta support the kid. Jeff has been my best friend for a long time. I know how excited he is about tonight. I couldn't miss it." Phelps played a little cards as they waited for Gross' turn at the table. As Gross played, Phelps looked on along with pro poker player Antonio Esfandiari and giving his support. Phelps took the opportunity to pose for photos with some of the glamorously dressed women at the tournament. Gross was not victorious this time. 25-year-old Jonathan Roy from Quebec won as was delighted to be able to meet Phelps. He told WPT, "It was unbelievable to have Michael Phelps on the rail. I got to win the title and shake him by the hand." Gross took third place and a $317,000 prize. Phelps tweeted: "Man the kid!!! Can't be more happy for what @Jgross5 did!! Proud of u man!!!!"
