Reid-Kyl Poker Bill Faces Another Opponent
Another obstacle on its way through the lame duck session of the US Congress has shaken the controversial Reid-Kyl federal online poker legalization bill, as six state lotteries announced their plan to send directors to Washington DC to lobby against it. Reportedly, lottery directors from Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Washington state, Kentucky, Missouri and New Hampshire and possibly others, led by the executive director of the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries, David Gale, will visit Washington DC where they will express their concern about what they see as an invasion into individual states' rights and the possibility of interference with states' plans for online expansion of lottery operations. According to Gale, with the visit the lottery directors seek to convey the important message to Congress that gambling legislation is a state right and falls under the authority of state lawmakers. However, it was underlined by a Reid spokesperson that despite the limited 3-week deadline for the passage of the bill in the current Congressional session, it is still in draft form, so Senator Reid is still discussing it with opponents in order to address their concerns.
