Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission Ready for Online Poker
Online poker regulations may soon be revisited by Iowa regulators. The head of Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission, Jeff Lamberti, discussed the issue an upcoming episode of “Iowa Press” which will air December 28, 2012. It was reported that if Iowa moves in the direction of online poker legalization, the Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission is prepared. Lamberti said, “That's really where the next step in gaming is moving. We've seen some states approve it and are moving in that direction.” According to Wes Ehrecke, the executive director of the Iowa Gaming Association, “We'd like to have [online poker] offered through the website portals of the casinos on a platform regulated by the Racing and Gaming Commission so you're assure that when you play that we can keep the minors out.” At this time, there is no expected timeframe for a reintroduction of Iowa online poker regulations. The issue was tabled in March and Iowa Governor Terry Branstad was “skeptical” about some of the points in the prior bill. There is still much work to be done before we'll see legalization in the state of Iowa.
