NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship Trophy Goes to Matusow
The 2013 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship saw a truly grand finale this weekend in shape of a clash between Mike Matusow and Phil Hellmuth. The final two emerged as the best out of a series of matches between 64 top international players, all specifically invited for their skills and appeal to audience. Matusow emerged in the finale after beating amazing pro Michael Mizrachi, high stakes ace Viktor Blom, WSOP bracelet holder, Barry Greenstein, as well as John Hennigan and Scott Seiver. The finals saw him emerge winner after some intense if brief action, and apart from the honors he earned a hefty take-home of $750,000, while Hellmuth had to settle with a runner up prize of $300,000. As he said in an interview after the best-of-three games match against Hellmuth, it was the 'old timers' who prevailed in the end, managing to defeat young guns in this fantastic play-off.
