Poker Run Helps Family Rebuild After Fire
One family's home went up in flames a couple of weeks ago losing 20 years worth of memories. Who would've thought poker would come to the rescue? This wasn't poker in the usual sense. A poker run was put together to help the family. Summer Beesley lived in the house with her daughter and parents. "We lost everything and I didn't even know where to start," she said. Beesley's friends created a poker run in which a group of motorcycles hit the road for a great cause. The riders kicked things off at Lacey's bar. "She's lost everything so as a community we pulled together, and people helping people is what we're all about here at Lacey's bar," said Steve Maynard, the bar owner and event organizer. There were 4 stops and people were able to place bids on items from 24 sponsors to help the family. "This isn't even my hometown but people in this town knew me," said Beesley. "And they knew Emily, or my mom or my dad and they poured their hearts out to help us." Beesley is forging ahead despite all that was lost in the fire. "I couldn't call it anything other than a blessing because I didn't lose my family" she said. "And family's what makes a home, not a house."
