Another State to Legalize Online Poker?
New amendments to a bill that would grant licenses to online poker operators have been introduced in yet another state, Massachusetts. The bill is supported by 18 politicians. The amendment specifies that any online poker operator must receive a Category 3 license. There will be a maximum of three online poker licenses which would be good for ten years. Massachusetts officials argue that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 has not prevented thousands people from playing online poker via illegal offshore-based sites. It's this fact that has driven them to initiate new legislation to legalize, regulate and tax online poker. The state is the next, after Illinois and New Jersey, in considering approving gambling licenses for online operators. Massachusetts has $80 billion is debt to consider which puts them second in the nation. Of course there are those that oppose the legalization of online poker. They've argued that passing this legislation would make casinos readily available in every household with internet access. We shall see if yet another state will legalize online poker.
