On a vote of 32 - 20, the Illinois Senate approved the hot gambling expansion bill, from which an online poker legalisation amendment was removed last week, thus opening the door for the House debate, and prospectively the Governor's final word.
If implemented, the new bill will allow slot machines at racetracks in Illinois and five new land casinos in the state. Crain's Chicago Business also reports that the Senate bill contains a provision banning political campaign contributions from owners of casinos, video poker and racetracks.
Yet, this is still far away, as the Governor Pat Quinn was not very supportive of the idea to introduce more gambling in the state and has twice rejected gambling bills so far. Still, the recent Senate vote sparks hope that the bill will eventually be endorsed.
