US Real-Money Tourneys by Skillz
Another company exploring the possibilities of the US legislative carve-out for skill-based gaming is a mobile skill gaming specialist Skillz Inc., which has launched a public beta testing version of a new multi-player, free-play and real-money tournament platform for US-based players. The platform which is now available for Android-enabled devices, enables game developers to host cash competitions in 36 states in addition to free and virtual currency tournaments that can be offered around the world. The platform also supports content from nine other game studios, including Gnarly Games, Rocketmind, Spooky House Studios, Rogue Rocket, DMW Design Group, Coeus Creative, Ilyon Dynamics, WSM and The Game Boss/Geniteam Solutions. According to Andrew Paradise, CEO of Skillz, “While mobile gaming continues to boom, game developers need innovative yet complementary ways to monetise their content. “Eighty percent of mobile game revenues went to the top twenty development studios last year. Tournaments take mobile gaming to the next level by enhancing gameplay, making it more social and fun as players compete against each other. For developers, competitions translate into longer sessions, better user retention and increased revenues,” Paradise claimed.
