Poker Pro Amnon Filippi is Allowed to Attend Poker Tournaments Following Arrest
It has been 7 months since poker pro Amnon Filippi, 43, was arrested on charges of conspiring to distribute marijuana. Despite this, a judge has allowed him to attend poker related events which have taken him to Atlantic City, Las Vegas, California and Florida. He's been granted this time because it's his livelihood. Filippi is a professional poker player and these are the demands of the job. “This is his job. This is how he earns a living,” his lawyer, Jeremy Schneider said. “Those are the places he works.” Judge Ronnie Abrams of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York granted the permission for Filippi to take part in various tournaments. Filippi plays under the nickname “Guts” and the alias shown on the indictment is “Jew E.” He was arrested last October with two others for growing more than 100 marijuana plants. Despite charges and bail restrictions, Filippi requested permission to head for Atlantic City within weeks of his arrest and the rest is history. Most recently, he was granted permission to attend the World Series of Poker at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas which runs from May through July. According to the request, he'll be staying with a friend during this time.
