PokerStars Refunds Scammed Player
PokerStars player, Douglas Polk aka WCGRider, told a story of a poker scam that ended with the online poker site crediting his account with nearly $35k. Polk wrote on a well-known poker forum about how a poker pro introduced him to a poker fan, Joshua Tyler, who he allowed into his Las Vegas home. There isn't much information on Tyler but the story continues with Polk's computer being tampered with while he was in his home. The tampering made it possible for players to see his hole cards. A poker player known as Forbidden536 scammed $35,000 from Polk. After PokerStars was made aware of the problem, they confirmed that there was an issue but it was not through any fault of their own. “We have determined that 'Forbidden536′ violated the Terms of Service for using their PokerStars account during their play with you," Pokerstars advised Polk. "We have reviewed the play with both players' hole cards exposed. We are sure beyond any reasonable doubt that 'Forbidden536′ was able to see your hole cards whilst they were playing against you.” PokserStars followed up by refunding the balance of $34,397.10 remaining in Forbidden536's account. Daniel "Jungleman" Cates was the pro who introduced Tyler to Polk and has responded with posts to clear his name. He maintains that he had nothing to do with the scam. “I didnt vouch for Josh, i never said he was nice, certainly didnt say he was trustworthy, or any such thing," he posted. "Doug [Polk] could have decided not to invite him over or whatever. I had no influence whatsoever on this decision.”
