Illinois Court Grants PokerStars’ Privacy
Poker player Kelly Sonnenburg sought to obtain confidential corporate information from the Rational Group's licensing application in New Jersey; however there was a bit of a snag in court this week when an Illinois judge granted PokerStars' request for a Protective Order Staying Discovery. Sonnenburg filed a claim against Rational Group as the parent of Pokerstars hoping to use Illinois state law which allows the recovery of losses from illegal gambling. As part of her claim she attempted to access the information included in the company's New Jersey online gambling licensing application. Judge Stephen C. Williams said that Sonnenburg's request to access this information was not necessary and required her to withdraw her subpoenas from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement for any information that Rational Group deems “personal, confidential and private.” Rational Group will now work to have Sonnenburg's lawsuit to recover her losses dismissed.
