Mahoney’s Major Victory at Australian Poker Tourney
US poker pro Patrick Mahoney leaves the first stop of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour in Perth, Australia, sponsored by a popular online casino, with $120,000 in his pocket after winning his first major tourney. After winning his way through the massive amount of 255 other players, Mahoney made it to the final table which featured one American and seven other Aussie players, including Dean Blatt, Scott Davies, Brian Mcallister, Sal Fazzino, Matthew Rolfe, Paul Murray, Vesko Zmukic and Justin Walch. The first casualty came two hours after the game's 2pm stating time, with Mahoney busting Justin Walch, who bowed out with $12,300. Escalating quickly, the game saw Brian Mcallister busting in fourth place, leaving with $37,100, and leaving the final three, Mahoney, Davies and Blatt talking about splitting the pot. Mahoney, sensing victory, declined the deal and let the game continue, until a little later on, when the three players were on more even ground, talks of a deal resumed. This time, he agrees to a deal that would let the next player out leave with an additional $10,000. Shortly after the deal was made, Scott Davies is eliminated, and leaves with a total $57,000 in third place. The final two players, Blatt and Mahoney, squared off head to head with Blatt holding twice the number of chips as Mahoney, until again the two players started talking about a deal. However, this conversation lasted too long for Crown Casinos liking, who ordered a resumption of play without a deal being made. This worked out perfectly for Mahoney, who gained advantage over his opponent and managed to eliminate him soon after the casino's decision. Blatt left with $86,100 in second place, which left Mahoney winning money and the glory.
