Oscar Winning Screenwriter to Direct a Film Based on Life of Molly Bloom
Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin will be directing his first film, 'Molly's Game', based on the life of American poker princess Molly Bloom and her organization of high stakes poker games for celebs and Wall Street millionaires. The movie script is based on her memoir, which features the same title, and covers her status as world-class skier to becoming the high stakes poker game organizer who rubbed shoulders with some of the most rich and famous but never played a hand herself. Among her client list were Hollywood stars, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Tobey Maguire. Her lifestyle came to a screeching halt when she landed on the FBI's radar but her punishment was merely a slap on the wrist. Bloom was given one year of probation and required to pay a $1,000 fine. Sorkin, screenwriter of The Social Network, will write the script for Molly's Game and work with ex-Sony head Amy Pascal as producer. This film will be Sorkin's directorial debut but he has quite a history in the film and television industry having produced TV projects such as The Newsroom, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Sports Night and The West Wing. He's up for awards for the screenplay on the man behind Apple, Steve Jobs. It's also being reported that he will write the script for an upcoming film based on the life of epic comedian and star of I Love Lucy, Lucille Ball, who will be played by Cate Blanchett.
