Week 2 Global Poker League Standings
Week 2 of the Global Poker League is officially in the books. It appears interest in the league is picking up steam on its main outlet – Twitch.tv. Viewership is up slightly, and the buzz surrounding the league is gaining strength. With a new week, and a new chance to earn points for their teams, we saw new players take to the tables in hopes of scoring much needed points for their captains. The Berlin Bears were one of those teams in desperate need of a strong outing. World -renowned heads up specialist, Dan Cates was the lone player for the Bears; and had a disappointing showing to say the least. Cates finished in last place for both of his 6 max tournaments earning zero points. And only gained 3 points for his team by winning one of three heads up matches. His subpar performance put the Berlin Bears dead last in the standings. With a new week, comes new chances; Berlin took full advantage of those chances. Representing his hometown – Dominik Nitsche was first up for the Bears. He dominated the first 6-max tournament and earned a much needed win, along with 7 points. In his second tournament, he would once again show his worth by placing 2nd for another 5 points. Nitsche alone, helped take Berlin from the worst team in the league, to a contender. He would also win one of his heads up matches against Moscow's – Vladimir Troyanovskiy earning an additional 3 points for a total of 15 points. Last week's first place New York Rounders struggled heavily this week with an abysmal performance from Kevin MacPhee. He managed to finish last in both his 6-max tournaments, earning zero points. Had it not been for two wins from Olivier Busquet in his heads up match, The Rounders would be in much worse shape than they are. Montreal went from 3rd to first with a strong showing in all of their matches. Xuan Liu did falter in his first match by placing in 5th for just 1 point in his first match. His second match would result in a win and 7 much points. Pascal LeFrancois was the shining star of his team when he won all 3 of his heads up matches, and the coveted 9-point sweep for his Montreal team.
