Global Poker Results – Week 5
Week 5 of the Global Poker League is in the books. We have seen some movement in the leaderboards with the Americas division seeing the most. We have a new team at the top, and some exciting results to cover – so let's jump right in. The EurAsia conference was first up with 2 sets of 6 max tournaments. Mike Leah of the Paris Aviators earned the coveted 7 points by winning the first tournament, edging out Doyle Brunson. Brunson and his Rome Emperors were in dire need of some point after a few poor outings. Bill Perkins from the Berlin Bears brought up the rear in last place.The 2nd tournament saw Live Boeree of the London Royals snag first place and the 7 points. She was desperate for a decent showing after placing 5th in the last tournament. Todd Brunson earned another 2 points for his team coming in 4th place, with Mike Leah failing to capitalize on his first place finish by placing 5th in this tournament. Matches 3 and 4 saw the Americas Conference battle. The last place San Francisco Rush got 7 much needed points when Tony Gregg won the first match of the day. Chris Moneymaker, team captain of the Las Vegas Moneymakers placed 5th. Jonathan Little would step in for Moneymaker in the 2nd match placing 3rd. The real story in week 5 were the Sao Paulo Mets. Felipe Ramos started the turn of events for his team with consecutive 2nd place finishes for a total of 10 points. In the heads up portion, Max Pescatori once again had a strong showing winning 2 of the 3 heads up matches for 6 points. Igor Kurganov, Olivier Busquet and Jonathan Little also won 2 of 3 matches for their respective teams. Finally, Thiago Nishijima of the So Paulo Mets won 2 of 3 matches for another points. The Sao Paulo Mets earned 16 total points in week 5 moving them up 3 spots in the conference. The New York Rounders are the new leaders of the group after Mike Leah managed 6 more points in his heads up matches. Sao Paulo is only 4 points behind. Rounding out the field in the Americas division are the L.A. Sunset – Montreal Nationals – Las Vegas Moneymakers – San Francisco Rush. First and second the Eurasia division is neck and neck. The Paris Aviators are the current leaders with the Moscow Wolverines just one point behind. It's too early to call this a run away, but with Hong Kong Stars the closest team in 3rd place, they are already 14 points behind. London, Berlin and Rome round out the last remaining spots in EurAsia.
