Ben “Sauce” Sulsky Nears $5 Million in Online Winnings
In the words of the legendary comedian Rodney Dangerfield – Cash game players get no respect! Very few outside of the poker world know who the top cash game players are in the world. With most of the hype and coverage surround tournaments, cash games get left to the curb. Perhaps it's not as dramatic, and the game play is much different and could be confusing to those with little knowledge of the game. However, seeing someone win $500,000 in one hand sure does sound like great TV to me! Regardless, the tournament pros can have their accolades and 15 minutes of fame. The cash game grinders play to make money. And if one thing is true with cash game players, the numbers don't lie. A tournament pro could have $10 million in winnings; but another $9 million or more in buy ins, making him only a $1 million winner. In some cases, an overall losing player. In cash game stats, what you see is what you get. There is no buy in to deduct, just pure profits. It's tough to track live winnings, so who knows what the numbers are. But, with online tracking, we can easily track who's winning, and how much. Since tracking began sometime around 2007, only a handful of players have cracked the $5 million mark – and two of those players are the same person. Patrick Antonious has over $ million in winnings across two Full Tilt accounts. Phil Ivey is the far and away leader with almost $20 million in tracked winnings. Antonious is 2nd, with Dan Cates, Phil Galfond and “Urindanger” rounding out the only 5 players to reach the $5 million milestone. That's impressive company to be keeping. Many would argue these are the best cash game players in the world period! One player, Ben Sulsky who goes by the name – “Sauce123” at Poker Stars, is about to enter an elite group. As of June 2016, he has won $4.8 million in cash game winnings. And this does not include his play at $5/$10 where he grinded his way to becoming the best mid-stakes player online. He'd likely already be at, or over this $5 million threshold. Sulsky has become a living legend for online players. Many look up to him as they have the same backgrounds and can easily relate. He comes from bagging groceries, and pushing carts around, to suddenly crushing online cash games. Much like a Kurt Warner who went from doing the same, to winning a Super Bowl in the NFL two years later.
