Player of the Year Race Heating Up
June is the time of year poker players love. It's one of the biggest sports betting seasons with the NBA finals underway. And it also marks the start of the WSOP. This is when lives literally are changed overnight. With one win, a player can go from zero to hero and atop the leader board in an instant. Not only does the WSOP run, neighboring casinos are capitalizing on the influx of traffic in the area by offering their own tournament series. Many players come to Vegas simply for this reason – to play the smaller events that have great value and large prize pools. Over the course of over 60 events, points will be awarded to players that are trying to climb the leaderboard for player of the year. With countless other r events coinciding with the WSOP, were about to see major swings on the leaderboard. Earlier this week we saw two players increase their positions in the top 10 after placing in the Super High Roller Bowl. Bryn Kenney received 500 points for finishing in 6th place moving him up to number 4 on the player of the year board. Fedor Holz cracked the top 10 with his runner-up performance in the same event earning 800 points. The overall leader, Ari Engel has a 300-point lead over Anthony Gregg, but that could change with one win for either player. As of now, about 13 players have a legitimate chance at winning, with another 7 or 8 still in the hunt. Its literally up for grabs. The WSOP could decide the player of the year race by the end of July. The Smart Money The smart money is on Gregg, even though he is in second, he is playing better than any player right now. His 6 final tables for 2016 are impressive, but it's the players he's beat out to get that far that's even more impressive. He should be a regular at the WSOP events and with a strong showing, could cement his position at the top of the leaderboard after tis all over. The Dark Horse Fedor Holz has been coming on strong as of late. After his runner up performance at the Super High Roller Bowl, he is now Germanys all-time leading money winner. And if the past is an indication of what will happen at the WSOP, it's all about who's hot. Right now Holtz is hotter than anyone!
