Global Poker League Updates – Final Summer Series

Global Poker League Updates – Final Summer Series
The end of July is usually the wind down of the poker tournament schedule. The WSOP is coming to a close, and Vegas will go back to normal in less than a week. The Global Poker League is also coming to a close with the end of its Summer Series. While the league will go on, we will see an end to the successful series of heads up matches that started at the beginning of June. We got to see some great play, and some new additions to the league that was headlined by Breaking Bad star – Aaron Paul. One of the main stories of the summer series was the dominance of the Americas conference. Eurasia did have some strong showings, but the 2 weeks of sweeps for the Americas showed they are the heavyweights in this league. The final week was a fitting end as the Americas conference dominated once again. We also saw the continued reign of the top dogs in the Americas conference, further widening their distance from the rest of the field. Xuan Liu started the day off with a 2 -1 win over Dan Cates of the Berlin Bears. Mustapha Kanit tried to make the day a better outing for the Eurasia players when he beat Byron Kaverman of Sau Paulo 2 -1. Scott Ball of Las Vegas would have none of it and swept his opponent – Randy Lew of the Hong Kong Stars. Lew is having a bad summer so far. Once considered one of the brightest up and comers in poker, he has failed to live up to that potential yet. The remaining 4 matches all went the way of the Americas Conference. Chance Kornuth, Anton Wigg, and Jason Wheeler all from the Americas Conference won their heads up matches. Anton Wigg would sweep Chris Moorman of the London Royals. After another day of sweeps, Montreal leads all teams with 145 points. LA Sunset are in 2nd with 134 points. Sau Paulo is falling further behind after being the only Americas team to not win their heads up matches. They are still in 3rd, but almost out of contention being 22 points behind. Over on the Eurasia side, the Moscow Wolverines hold a firm lead with 122 points. London lost a little ground and is now 13 points behind. Hong Kong still has an outside chance with 106 points. Paris, Rome and Berlin are all but out of the running. Next week, the GPL will resume its standard format of 6 max sit n gos played online.
