Allen Cunningham is regarded by his peers as one of the best all around players under the age of thirty five. Typically in the game of Poker age and wisdom wins out over youth but Allen has proven that even the youngest players can be very, very dangerous if underestimated. Getting his start in much the same way as many of the other greats, Allen began his path towards becoming a professional on the kitchen table of his family home in California.
Allen was born on March 28th, in 1977 and has been on fire virtually ever since. He has already won five World Series of Poker bracelets with his first bracelet coming in 2001. His last was in 2007 when he won a spectacular $5K Pot Limit Hold'em game. To date he has won more than ten million dollars and his career really is just starting. He still has a very long way to go and if he keeps playing like he has been he will be a cinch for an induction into the Poker Hall of Fame. In fact, he was named 2005 World Series of Poker Player of the Year. A feat that he almost matched the following year before being beat out by Jeff Madsen for the honor.
Allen started off his life in the conventional manner attending UCLA in the hopes of obtaining a degree in engineering. However, the thought of a life as an engineer just didn't appeal to Allen like Poker did and he dropped out of the school before graduating. Not to say that he didn't glean any knowledge from his days in the hallways, to the contrary in fact. His style of play is very clean, analytical, and calculated. Much of the processes that he learned while studying to become an engineer have served him just as well in engineering his phenomenal rise to the forefront of the Poker world.
Phenomenal rise might actually be an understatement for this man who came out of virtually nowhere, to those who weren't paying attention, to win his first World Series of Poker Tour bracelet in just his first two years after his initial success as a professional Poker player. Some players languish in the shadows for years before being able to claim this distinction. Allen continues to set himself apart from the crowd in a time where Poker professionals are outnumbered by amateur players buying in to play. Some of these amateur players are very good and use the Internet as their training ground as they come up through the ranks. Allen's style has been able to cut through this new thundering herd and secure him a position at the finals tables again and again.
In Poker not much is ever certain, but one thing that is certain is that Allen Cunningham is not even close to done with the game. He spends much of his time online playing the game on Full Tilt Poker and can be found at cash games and tournaments all over the Poker world.
