Amnon Fillipi is a professional poker player. He was born in New York City June 29th, 1969.
Amnon is known for high stakes prowess and instincts in cash games. He has become a standard edition to almost every high stakes game wherever he travels. He has been seen on Poker shows such as High Stakes Poker and Poker After Dark.
Although he is a regular in the cash games, Amnon is an also a regular on the tournament circuit. He plays most of the big events and has a proven track record to be considered one of the best.
As of 2014, he has over $3 million in live tournament winnings. He has only been playing tournaments for short time which makes his record that more impressive. And if we knew just how much he has won playing cash games, this number would likely double or triple, or even more.
His WSOP resume includes over $1 million in winnings along with 1 final table. He has no bracelets to date but does have a 4th place finish in the 2007 HORSE event for half a million. He has also cashed in the Main Event on several occasions. He has 33 total cashes at the WSOP.
Touring the WPT, Amnon has 4 final tables with over $1.1 million in winnings. He came close on 2009 to winning his first major event at the Foxwoods Poker Classic, but fell just short placing 2nd for $409,000. Nothing to sneeze at, but still not a victory.
His lone victory in a high profile event came in 2005 when he won the Bellagio Cup Challenge for $364,000. This would be his highest place in majors.
In more recent and disturbing news, Amnon has been indicted on marijuana distribution charges. He and 2 other friends were caught growing over 100 marijuana plants in a 'grow house' in New York. Since being arrested for these charges he has been released on bail and awaits trial.
He made news when he was allowed to travel out of state. In most cases, people awaiting trial and out on bail are not allowed to leave the state. In Amnon case, his lawyers argued that his job requires him to leave thus making it a necessity. The judge agreed and allowed his to travel to specific tournaments. All trips must be sanctioned through the courts and a record of where he will be must be provided at all times.
