Barry Shulman - born, May 8th 1946.
Barry is an American born and raised poker player from Seattle Washington.
Barry is one of the brightest men in poker. He's an old timer of sorts and has been in the game for a long time. He has helped poker evolve into what is today. Some may say if it wasn't for his efforts, poker would be nowhere near its popularity today.
Before becoming a poker professional, Barry attended college. This is where learned the game and began taking it serious. While playing poker part time, Barry worked in real estate where he made a good bit of money.
He would use the money made from his real estate ventures to buy out Card Player magazine in the late 1990's. He is currently the CEO and owner of the poker publication along with his son.
Barry would move to Las Vegas after retiring and began playing poker and working on the magazine full time.
His playing career is something most pros are jealous of. He has won almost $5 million in his career. His earnings include 10 final tables at the WSOP and 2 bracelets. He has 21 cashes at the WSOP which total $1.7 million.
His first bracelet came in 2001 at the Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo event for $123,000.
His second would come 8 years later at the WSOP Europe where he won the main event for over $1.3 million. He would get heads up Daniel Negreanu and win this prestigious event.
His biggest cash to date wasn't even a win. He placed in the 2010 PCA for $1.35 million. This would be his one and only cash on the European Poker Tour.
Barry has proven he can adjust with the game. Having played in over 4 decades, he is still cashing and winning tournaments to this day. He is a regular at the WSOP where he cashes in at least one event a year it seems.
He is a tireless promoter for the game and one of the hardest working men in the business. He plays all the events and not just the big ones. He will play the smaller tournaments just as often as the big ones.
