Berry Johnston is a poker pro from Bethany Oklahoma. He was born in 1935 but remains one of the more powerful players on the tour.
He currently owns the record for most cashes at the WSOP with 66. He adds 30 final tables to his resume with 5 bracelets won.
He has over $3 million in winnings in his lifetime with much of this coming at the WSOP. His biggest and most memorable win came in 1986 when he won the Main event for $570,000.
Other bracelet wins include a first place in the 1990 limit hold em event for $254,000. He's won bracelets in all types of poker. He won a Razz event in 2001 for $83,000. He's also won an Omaha Limit event in 1996 for $91,000.
In 1990 he would defend his main event title by making another final table and finish in 5th. He's one of a handful of players who have made the final table of a main event more than once.
His list of wins and cashes exceeds 125. He has played in just about every tournament across the United Sates. From small buy in events in small casinos to the biggest buy ins in Vegas.
He has not played much overseas and has no recorded results on the WPT or EPT.
He has appeared on the Poker After Dark series when past WSOP champions played against one another. Phil Hellmuth, Huck Seed and Jamie Gold were among the field. He would place 4th in the event.
While Johnston is an old timer in the poker world, that hasn't stopped dim form playing online with the youngsters. As recently as 2009, he won a FTOPs event on Full Tilt. He won the $500 buy in event number 14 for $69,000.
Berry is a rare player who has been playing for decades and has done so profitably. While many struggle to keep up with the game. He has won in every decade he's played. He has adapted his game to play with today's young guns and has shown he can still play at a top level.
