Chad Batista

Chad is one of the most interesting and colorful characters on the poker circuit. His moniker online - 'lilholdem954' is one of the most recognizable and famous names in history. His profile pics are something of a pop culture icon these days. With his gold grill and bling around his neck, if you didn't know who he was, you'd think he was a wannabe Lil Wayne thug off the street.

The twenty something Coral Springs, Florida native hasn't always been a professional poker player. In fact he had a rough start to life. He dropped out of school in the 7th grade and made a living 'hustling' on the streets. This life of crime landed him jail when he turned 18. He hasn't even played a hand of poker up to this point.

It wasn't until he was released from prison when he met fellow poker pro, Adam 'Roothless' Levy. Levy began to show the troubled kid the ropes in the poker world. Batista would soon fall in love with the game and this started off his famous poker career.

Chad is a self-proclaimed 'instinct' player. He has never read a poker book and doesn't use math to calculate his decisions. He goes on his gut and his uncanny instincts to help him win. So far it's been working.

Online, Chad is one of the best. He has over $2 million in online winnings in his short career.

His nine winnings are many. He's won most of the majors online and was once the top rated online, tournament player at one point. His notable online wins include:

FTOPS wins in 2010 for $225,000

The Full Tilt Sunday Million for $212,000

Considering chad has only played a handful of live events, his results are quite good. Due to his parole limitations, he can only make it to so many events a year. But he does have almost $1 million in winnings playing live thus far.

His most notable cash was a final table appearance at the WSOP where he placed 5th in the 2007 Event 52 for $129,000.

Broke?

Rumors swirled early in his career that he was broke. Whether this was true or not remains to be seen. But, he was M.I.A. at the tables for a period of time and some assumed he was broke or just retired form the game.

He has made a comeback, to the delight of many poker players. He most recent cash was in February of 2014 and he even had final table appearance at the 2014 Mega Millions event for $165,000. Not bad for a broke poker player!
