David Sands is a professional poker player from the United States. He was born in Bozeman Montana. Bozeman is the place that fictional character 'Sheldon Cooper' from Big Bang Theory decided to live. In an episode where he was robbed, he decided that Bozeman was the safest place to live according to many calculations.
David Sands is no Sheldon Cooper, but he may just be Bozeman's most popular resident.
Coming from a small town of about 40,000, Sands has worked his way out of the small fishing and hiking town, to the big lights of the big cities around the globe. He's no an official regular on the tournament circuit and is becoming one of the most successful.
To date (2014) he has won nearly $7 million in his 10 years playing professionally.
While attending college Hamilton College, he started playing local home games with college buddies. This home game would bud into a successful poker career in a short time. He began playing tournaments at local casinos about 2 or 3 times a week. His first real victory would come in 2007 when he won an event at Turning Stone for over $50,000.
The year would get better for Sands when he won a few major online tournaments and now had a 6 figure bankroll in his pocket and his tuition paid for.
As of 2014, Sands now has over $6 million in live tournament winnings alone. This includes a couple million dollars cashes. Hi largest cash live is in 2013 when he placed 2nd at the PCA for over $1.2 million. The same year, just a few months later he would win the WPT Five Star Classic high roller event for another million dollar cash by winning the event.
Most of Sands success has come at the WPT with 2 final tables and 1 championship. He has multiple final tables and a handful of runner up finishes.
His WSOP record is less than stellar with just $500,000 in winnings and only 2 final tables.
Online Sands hasn't played since 2012. He does have numerous big wins in his time playing and has won almost $1 million online alone. He has wins in FTOPS events, Sunday Majors and big rebuys events. His largest cash online came in 209 when he won the FTOPS event number 10 for over $250,000.
Today, Sands spends his time between Vegas and his home. He is a regular at the high stakes cash game sin Vegas and has been known to win hundreds of thousands from the side games.
