Mimi Tran

Mimi Tran is a Vietnamese born poker player. She was born in Nha Trang, Vietnam - 1960.

Tran moved to the United States in 1982. She would go on to find work at various software companies in the Silicon Valley area. This is where many poker players get their roots, including Barry Greenstein.

It wasn't until 1989 when Mimi began to play poker. After a car accident left her disabled for a short time, she would learn the game from a friend. This friend just happened to be Barry Greenstein.

The two would work out a deal where she would teach Barry how to speak Vietnamese and Barry would teach her how to play poker. The two would never look back.

Mimi is best known for being the former girlfriend of Greenstein, but she is also known for one of the best cash game players around. She is one of the only women in the world who regularly plays at the high stakes games. She also is one of the only plays who regularly win at the high stakes games.

Tournaments

Tran didn't begin playing tournaments until 1998. Greenstein would convince Tran to start playing them and she would begin to show immediate returns on her decision to do so. Her first cash came in her first year of playing the big events. She would final table the Limit Hold em event and finish 4th for almost $70,000.

The following year, she would make the same final table and finish 2nd this time for over $100,000. In 2002, she would final table this event once again but came up short for the 3rd time.

Tran has a total of 4 final tables at the WSOP and almost $430,000 in winnings. Her lifetime earnings across all events exceed $1.6 million.

She has 2 final tables at the WPT to add to her resume. This would also be her biggest cash to date. She would place 4rd at the 2008 WPT Finals for $472,000. And surprisingly enough, this would be the first time anyone outside the poker world would hear the name - Mimi Tran.

The event was televised and ti would be first and only TV appearance at a major poker tournament.

While this was Trans only stint in poker tournament stardom, she has been featured on the High Stakes Poker show seen on GSN. She was in the first season of the game and she quickly showed she was one of the better players at the table.
